Soundgarden were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in a ceremony that took place last Saturday and which featured a performance by the band courtesy of actor Jim Carrey.
During his speech, Carrey recalled the day he met the group, in 1996, on a night when he hosted the television program “Saturday Night Live”. “I insisted that they be the musical guests,” he said.
“They played ‘Pretty Noose’, with all its dark and epic beauty. I stood in front of them, letting the electric waves course through my body, like a sound baptism. After the concert, they gave me what I consider to be one of my greatest treasures: the [guitarra] Fender Telecaster that Chris [Cornell] rang, signed by everyone”.
The ceremony, which took place in Los Angeles, also featured a tribute from Toni Cornell, daughter of the late singer, who performed ‘Fell on Black Days’.
In addition to Soundgarden, names such as White Stripes, Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper or OutKast entered the rock “hall of fame” this year.
