The outgoing Porsche boss Oliver Blume emphasized in an interview that the sports car manufacturer was well positioned for the future despite the current challenges. Blume, who has also been in charge of Volkswagen since September 2022, sees Porsche’s realignment as a solid basis for the coming years. This restructuring includes significant investments in flexible propulsion technologies, including combustion, hybrid and electric.
The realignment, which is scheduled to be completed by 2025, is seen as a crucial step in making Porsche more resilient to future market demands. Blume admitted that the company is currently in a massive crisis, but was optimistic that a positive trend will begin next year. This confidence is based on the expectation that the measures taken will bear fruit in the long term.
In the third quarter, Porsche suffered an operating loss of 966 million euros, which was primarily due to the high costs of the realignment. The extension of combustion engine technology has taken a toll on the company’s profits. Nevertheless, management is confident that the bottom will be reached this year and that the financial situation will noticeably improve from 2026.
Another factor currently weighing on the automotive industry is the ongoing chip supply problems. According to Blume, this crisis shows how fragile the global supply chain is. Unlike previous semiconductor crises, this time mainly simple chips that are used in many industries, especially in the automotive industry, are affected. Blume emphasized the need for a quick political solution to ensure security of supply.
From the beginning of 2026, Michael Leiters, the former McLaren manager, will take over the management of Porsche. This personnel decision is seen as part of the long-term strategy to prepare Porsche for the challenges of the future. The coming years will show whether the measures and investments made will have the desired effect and get Porsche back on the road to success.
