A Women’s National Beach Soccer Team ended its participation in the El Salvador Soccer Cup 2026 with a 1-0 defeat to the host teamin the third and final match of the competition, a result that allowed the Salvadorans to win the trophy.
After two victories in the previous rounds — against Brazil (1-0) and Mexico (6-0) — Portugal entered the field determined to close the tournament undefeated. However, they faced a particularly effective and dangerous El Salvador team, especially in the opening moments of the match. In the first period, the home team threatened the Portuguese goal twice, hitting the post and the crossbar, clear signs of the pressure exerted on the Portuguese defense.
As the match progressed, the game became more balanced, with opportunities divided between the two teams. Despite that, Portugal failed to convert the chances created. The decisive moment came in the third period, when Salvadoran goalkeeper Maravilla risked a long-range shot which, benefiting from some confusion in the area, ended up surprising Jamila Marreiros and resulting in the only goal of the match.. This was, in fact, the first goal conceded by Portugal throughout the competition.
Until the final whistle, the team led by Alan Cavalcanti tried to react and reach a draw, but without success. Like this, the Portuguese team ended their participation in the tournament with two wins and one defeatcoming very close to winning the title, which ended up smiling for the host team.
