New Delhi: The Supreme Court has filed a plea against the recently announced University Grants Commission (UGC) rules to prevent caste discrimination on campuses. The plea alleges that the said rules exclude “general category” students from complaining under the grievance redressal mechanism. The University Grants Commission (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026 were notified earlier this month and apply to all higher education institutions in India.
