IZAMAL.- In the emblematic City of the Hills, known for its color and tradition, a problem in urban daily life has triggered a barrage of reviews e irony among its inhabitants: the municipal patching.
The residents of Izamal, the first Magical Town in Mexico, have poured their discontent on social networks, where the official publications of the City Council, which promise to “continue moving forward”, collide with a road reality that, according to citizens, is far from peace and security offered.
The debate ignited after a publication from the City Council, where images of the work crews were shared. However, what was intended to be a message of positive management became a forum for persistent complaint and the witty mockery on the quality of repairs.
A “lunar crater” on 40: the road where figures are “born”
The section most noted for its deplorable condition is the 40th street between 27 and 25. A neighbor, named Javi May Coba, described the situation with a comparison which summarizes the collective feeling: the road is “worse than a lunar crater.”
Desperation has driven residents to satire. Javi May Coba himself pointed out that on the street there are “about 120 potholes of various sizes and even shapes,” to the point that it has “made him want to bury my GDP there.” The reference to the traditional Yucatecan dish, which is cooked underground, illustrates the depth of the hoyancos, which, according to testimony, “are for burying kids.” Popular ingenuity has even found ways in the damaged asphalt, as the citizen claims to have seen a pothole “similar to a horse“.
Patching that “destroys” and short-term works
Other comments show the inefficiency of recent works. Alfy May reported that a street, after the pothole, “it was worse”going so far as to accuse the Commune of “destroy” instead of repairing. “If you pass by today you can see how much worse it was,” the neighbor warned.

Criticism is not limited to the quality of the material or technique, but to the duration of repairs, a recurring complaint in public infrastructure. Juan Miguel May Coyok, in a concise and direct comment, states: “Everything they repair doesn’t take even a month”.
Furthermore, there are indications about the flood of certain areas.
Miguel Pech commented that, beyond the superficial repair, the road “it is necessary to level, not just patch by patch”because with the rain “it floods and becomes impassable in the same way.” This suggests that the problem is not just wear, but lack of rainwater infrastructure adequate, as pointed out by Izamaleño, who identified a “well that is covered” as the main obstacle, more than the simple pothole.
Distraction and danger for children
The discontent is aggravated by direct accusations against the supervision of the crews. Yaneli Carrillo demanded that the workers be “supervised”, as she assures that “They just start talking and looking at their cell phones” and the section does not conclude.
Beyond the image and the vehicular flow, the state of the roads represents a tangible danger.
Marisol Sol indicated that the calle 21 requires a “new road” instead of patches as that is the route they take “several children” to go to the “Agustín Melgar” Primary School and the Maria Montessori Kindergarten.
