99% of Mobile Network Failures Resolved

The recent storms affected around 280,000 users on the mobile network in Portugal, with more than 99% of the faults resolved, according to the Minister of Infrastructure.

Around 280 thousand users were affected on the mobile network, “with more than 99% of the situations having already been resolved”, said Miguel Pinto Luz, on the Infrastructure, Mobility and Housing Committee, in parliament.

The government official framed the impact of the bad weather in a broader context, highlighting that “the effects of the storms were truly devastating overall”.

Despite the high rate of replacement in the mobile network, the recovery of the fixed network should continue, admitting that “the situation will take longer to resolveand all efforts for recovery are also being carried out.”

The storms caused significant damage to critical infrastructure, requiring the mobilization of resources across the country.

In the road sector, the government official indicated that they are at stake “more than 336 cuts on National Roads”, adding that “today more than 90% of the cuts have been resolved”, thanks to the work of more than two thousand workers.

Regarding the railway, he highlighted the complexity of the interventions, pointing out the case of the Beira Baixa Line, “whose interruption will last around six months”due to difficulties in access and execution of works.

In terms of recovery operations, Miguel Pinto Luz highlighted that “more than 4,700 workers were involved in the recovery of all these areas”, involving companies and entities from different sectors.

The minister also highlighted the collective effort in responding to the damage caused by bad weather, with several entities participating in operations to replace essential services.
