The first baby bison of the year is born in Lozère

#PINK NOTEBOOK On the night of April 14, Clairefontaine, a 10-year-old bison, gave birth to the very first calf of the year in the European Bison Reserve. This event marks, like every year, a strong moment for the teams, a sign of the good development of the herd. The Reserve wanted to involve the public in this great news and launched a competition on Instagram and Facebook. The objective: to find a first name for this newborn, whose sex has not yet been determined. Everyone is invited to suggest a first name starting with “CL”. The selected proposal will allow its author to win two tickets for a visit to the Reserve.

Citizenship courses to avoid the judge

#LOSES For five days, Num’n Coop raised awareness of the dangers of digital technology among five young people, aged 15 to 18, accompanied by the Judicial Protection of Youth (PJJ). Creating fake news to better protect yourself against it, measuring the repercussions of cyberharassment and the sharing of intimate content, etc., this citizenship course on disinformation and the dangers of digital technology is part of the alternative measures to prosecution in order to prevent minors from finding themselves facing the Children’s Judge. “The idea is to say: ‘You are in debt to society. How can you pay it without going to court?'”explains Nicolas Bonnici, head of educational unit within the PJJ. Num’n Coop also works with Addictions France, Road Prevention and the Montrodat functional rehabilitation center. Knowing that these so-called “remedial” measures can also take the form of very committed physical activity or the writing of a letter of apology.

A Catalan third in the French sushi championship

#AFTER. Chef Apiyada Sarivan represented the Pyrénées-Orientales at the French sushi championship in La Rochelle. Cutting, dressing, creativity, etc., every gesture counted, under the watchful eye of judges, cameras and other candidates. After a high-pressure final, the young Catalan took third place. “It was very short. My stress level was at its peak (…) It was tense but I got there”confided the young chef of the Toulouges restaurant, SabaiDee Sushi. A revenge next year? For now, Apiyada is enjoying it.

Today’s number: 500

#GARD The end of 2025 and the very wet first quarter of 2026 allowed the groundwater level to rise. And that’s good news. Thus, since December, the month which marks the start of the recharge season, 500 mm of accumulations have been recorded at the Garons station and 430 mm at the Courbessac station. Since April, the drier and sunny weather could attenuate this observation. Nevertheless, specialists remain optimistic before the summer.

No 90 km/h on the D13

#HERAULT The Toulouse Administrative Court of Appeal has just annulled a derogation order taken by the Hérault departmental council which raised the maximum speed authorized on departmental 13 between Roujan and Faugères from 80 to 90 km/h. In its judgment, the court criticizes the relevance of the accident studies on which the department relied to increase the speed on certain sections. The National League Against Road Violence immediately welcomed “a legal breakthrough” which could “set a precedent”. Building on this decision, it is examining the advisability of initiating an appeal on all of the sections concerned in Hérault, i.e. approximately 330 kilometers.
