E-sport is taking root in the Gers with the Unit Nemesis association. After a 6th place at the Gamers Assembly, she intends to create a hybrid place combining competition, social support and local roots. Meetings.
E-sport is gaining ground in the Gers. From April 4 to 6, the Gamers Assembly, the largest LAN in France (local network tournament), was held in Poitiers. Among the participants was Unit Nemesis, an association founded in the winter of 2025 in Auch. Its ambition is to democratize the practice of electronic sport and to supervise it in good conditions, particularly for young people, while developing local roots.
For this first participation, the results are encouraging. “The competition was tough, but the players took 6th place against the 57 best French and international teams present. This is very positive for a first,” underlines the association a few days after the event.

Even today, the structure evolves in the amateur circuit. “There are different levels of competition, with dates throughout the year. The objective is to access the ascending and descending phases: the two best amateur teams face those of the higher level to try to move up,” explains Joanna, president of the association.
An ambition to bring e-sport to the department
If the ambition is clear, local development remains a challenge. “In the Gers, e-sport is still little known. It is therefore difficult to recruit local players for the moment. But that is our long-term objective: to build a team from the region. Today, our players come from all over France.”
At the origin of the project, an observation of lack. “I have been in e-sport for three to four years, as a volunteer manager. Like many positions in this environment, it is voluntary. I wanted to create my own association by seeing what was lacking in the Gers,” continues Joanna.
Lead the association to other achievements
More Unit Nemesis is not limited to competition. The association also has a broader social project, as Mathilde, vice-president, explains: “In the Gers, there are not many infrastructures linked to e-sport. We want to create a hybrid place: a cybercafé, but also a support space. The idea is to help people with their administrative procedures, because the deadlines are often long or the schedules are unsuitable.”

The objective is also to provide a secure space for young people. “We want to make it a welcoming place for teenagers, especially after school. A place where they could do their homework, be accompanied if necessary, or simply find a quiet space. Some young people do not always have ideal conditions at home. This place could also be a refuge, a listening space.”
