The largest solar energy plant on the entire planet is being built in India. The size will be five times the area of the city of Lisbon.
The Adani Group is preparing a battery system with a capacity of 1,126 megawatts, while the power capacity is 3,530 megawatt-hours. The corresponding area exceeds 700 square kilometers, so it will be around seven times the total area of the city of Lisbon.
The value of the investment was not disclosed.
The energy produced there would be enough to supply the total electricity consumption of entire countries such as the Netherlands or Chile, according to calculations made by El Economista. The facilities will be completed in 2030.
One of the objectives is to create conditions to reduce dependence on coal, as defined by the government of that country. At the moment it is 70% and should rise to 49% by 2036. By that time, solar energy should have a weight of 65% in the total clean energy generated on Indian soil.
