Classifying the work as a “high-precision engineering operation”, the city hall states that the infrastructure, designed by architect Gonçalo Byrne, provides a free span of 67.20 meters, elevators and stairs “that will guarantee accessibility for everyone, as well as the connection of the urban fabric to the waterfront”.
The bridge was an old promise from the mayor of Oeiras, Isaltino Morais, to improve the connection between those two areas.
Until now, the connection between Algés and Passeio Marítimo has been made through a tunnel, which is closed at certain times.
On days of events on Passeio Marítimo, such as NOS Alive, the public had to follow Complementary Itinerary 17 (IC17) on foot to get to the other side of the train line.
To ensure the safety of those who wish to attend the installation of the bridge, the Chamber of Oeiras recommends the use of the main venue of the NOS Alive festival and asks that some safety rules be followed in the vicinity of the work.
“Any noise must be minimized as much as possible and the use of ‘flash’ on photographic devices or cell phones must be avoided so as not to cause distractions to the technical team. In the intervention area, the capture of aerial images and the use of drones below 30 meters in height will be prohibited”, indicates the city hall.
