Banco Montepio will propose to the general meeting, on April 29, dividends of 36 million euros, relating to the 2025 financial year, he said, in a proposal published on its website.
The bank recalled that “it recorded a positive consolidated net result of 103,779,606.65 euros and a positive individual net result of 120,222,396.18 euros”, with the proposal to include, to reinforce the legal reserve 12 million euros, for the distribution of dividends 36 million euros and for retained earnings 72 million euros.
Among the points presented, the election of the bank’s office holders and corporate bodies for the 2026-2029 term will be deliberated, the list of which has not been released.
The Associação Mutualista Montepio Geral, a shareholder of the bank, has already confirmed that Pedro Leitão’s term as president of Banco Montepio will not be renewed, in a response sent to Lusa.
The online newspaper Eco reported that the mutual company would not reappoint Pedro Leitão and wants José Azevedo Pereira (former tax director and former president of EuroBic) to lead the bank.
In November, in an interview with Lusa, the president of the mutual company, Virgílio Lima, had said that he expects Banco Montepio to pay more dividends in the coming years.
“It also has a higher remuneration potential. Since 2012 there have been no dividends. Two years ago we had the first dividends, last year too. As the bank also has a better performance, it is natural that dividends will increase. Given the capital invested, we have expectations of a greater volume of dividends in the near future and in an increasing manner”, he stated.
In 2024, Banco Montepio paid 6.0 million euros in dividends.
The Associação Mutualista Montepio Geral – with more than 600 thousand members – is the top of the Montepio group and has several companies, including insurance companies and Banco Montepio.
Montepio Geral – Associação Mutualista (MGAM) recorded, in 2025, profits of 231 million euros, a growth of 10% compared to 2024, giving “continuity to the positive trajectory of recent years”, he highlighted, in a statement.
