“Battle After Battle” won BAFTA for Best Film and Best Director

The North American film “Battle After Battle”, by Paul Thomas Anderson, won the Best Film and Best Director categories at the British BAFTA film awards, which also distinguished, among others, “Sinners” and “Hamnet”.

“Battle After Battle” was one of the most nominated films, with nominations in 13 BAFTA 2026 categories, the winners of which were announced this Sunday, February 22, at a ceremony in London.

Big winner of the Golden Globes in January and favorite in the Oscar race, Paul Thomas Anderson’s film, starring Leonardo Di Caprio, competed for the BAFTA for Best Film along with “Hamnet”, “Marty Supreme”, “Sentimental Value” (which won the category of Best Film in a Non-English Language) and “Sinners”.

In addition to Best Film and Best Director, “Battle After Battle” also won in the categories of Best Supporting Actor (Sean Penn), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Editing.

Also nominated in 13 categories was Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners,” which won BAFTAs for Best Supporting Actress (Wunmi Mosako), Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Score.

“Hamnet”, which had 11 nominations, was distinguished in the categories of Best Actress (Jessie Buckley) and Best British Film.

The BAFTA for Best Actor was awarded to Briton Robert Aramayo for his performance in “I Swear”, about a young man with Tourette’s Syndrome.

The same role earned Robert Aramayo the Rising Star award, a category whose winner is chosen by the public.

“I Swear” was also honored with the BAFTA for Best Cast.

The BAFTA for Best Animated Film was awarded to “Zootropolis 2”.

The Brazilian film “The Secret Agent”, by Kléber Mendonça Filho, competed for the BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay and Best Film in a Non-English Language.

Brazilian cinema was also present at the BAFTAs with Adolpho Veloso, responsible for the photography direction of the film “Train Dreams”, by Clint Bentley, and with “Apocalipse nos Trópicos”, by Petra Costa, nominated in the Documentary category.

Also noteworthy is the nomination, in the Best Sound category, of Portuguese descendant Nelson Ferreira, for his work on the film “Frankenstein”, by Guillermo del Toro.

The BAFTAs are an initiative of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
