MADRID.- Maria Corina Machadoleader of the Venezuelan opposition, met with his compatriots in Madrid and called on them to prepare for the “return home”; visit that coincided with the IV Defense Meeting of Democracy in Barcelona.

Before thousands of attendees, the leader described the day as a “historic moment” and assured that the opposition movement is at a turning point, after years of political crisis y mass migration.
María Corina Machado calls for a “return home” from Madrid
During her speech, María Corina Machado called on Venezuelans to organize for what she described as a new political phase. “Today we are starting our return home”, he proclaimed, generating an emotional response among those in attendance.
The opposition leader addressed a direct message to those who remain in Venezuela: “Get ready, because here we go”.
In his speech, he highlighted the impact of the Venezuelan diaspora and the forced separation of millions of citizens.
“There is no other generation that values what it means to be close to their land like we do.”.
He also insisted on the need to overcome internal divisions and consolidate national unity. According to him, one of the main challenges has been to unite those who emigrated with those who remain in the country.
“We’re going to do what needs to be done. We are going to win, we are going to expel evil from our country“, he expressed, alluding to the search for free elections and the Venezuelan regime, still standing.
According to reports from EFEthe concentration in Gate of the Sun It brought together thousands of displaced Venezuelans, who expressed their support for the opposition leader with slogans such as “freedom” and “María Corina president.”
At the meeting, he highlighted the symbolism of being gathered in Madrida city that he described as “the heart of Europe for Venezuelans who have had to leave.”

Venezuelan opposition leader receives the Gold Medal
At this Saturday’s event, María Corina Machado received the Gold Medal of the Community of Madrid, presented by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, Madrid president.
The Venezuelan leader thanked the recognition and pointed out that she accepts it as a tribute to all Venezuelans who have fought for freedom.
“I do so aware that it is a recognition of each of the Venezuelans inside and outside my country.”.
In his speech he remembered different sectors of Venezuelan society, such as teachers, journalists and citizens who have faced censorship and repression.
“They sought to make us feel that everything was lost. The people of Venezuela have shown that they were born to be free”.
Machado also insisted on the need to move towards free elections, while questioning international actors who, he said, hinder the democratic process.
Machado rejects meeting with Pedro Sánchez
In a previous press conference, María Corina Machado explained her decision not to meet with Pedro Sanchezconsidering that “it was not convenient”, after recent political positions.
Likewise, he criticized international leaders who, in his opinion, have supported positions contrary to political change in Venezuela.
The leader stressed that the citizen mandate expressed in internal processes must be respected, and reiterated that the transition must advance “without delay, without excuses.”
