One of the most exciting non-racing gallopers in the New England region is taking its first steps towards an autumn feature when it debuts at Thursday’s Tamworth meeting.
Always A Rainbow, a powerfully built filly by Vancouver’s 2015 Golden Shoe winner, takes the Maiden Plate over 1400m to open her career.

Always A Rainbow, stabled with Armidale’s leading rider in Stirling Osland, is likely to be the favorite on January 5 after a strong and engaging test at home.
Despite setting a high speed and being over-raced at the start, Always A Rainbow picked up under good hold from 200m and crossed the line just half a length from the trial winner.
The filly could easily have won this trial but, in keeping with the stable’s preparation to run out seven furlongs on debut, she was impressively held together in the straight.
Out of the Hard Spun mare Tornado Gal, who won four from eight to BM 75 level in 2018, Always A Rainbow is being touted as a potential high class medium performer.
On her debut at Tamworth she opened the even-money favorite ahead of progressive Scone, four-year-old Shipping Shamus ($2.40) and Dunstall The Gun ($5.00) well clear of the others.
Always A Rainbow, who fits under the weight limit at just 55.5kg, will be ridden by Ben Looker for the Ramsey Pastoral ownership.
All going well, it’s likely he’ll target one of the early NSW Country Championship qualifiers next month or early March, and may even push his way towards the Scone Cup 1600m in early May.
