GUATEMALA.- It is reported that Guatemala reinforced military surveillance on the border with Mexico after the death last Sunday of the top leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho”official sources reported.

In a press conference the minister of the National Defense of GuatemalaGeneral Henry Sáenz explained that:
“We are deploying more resources, such as armored vehicles and personnel, and increasing military intelligence teams to prevent (criminals) from organizing, having safe houses or escape corridors.”
Likewise, he explained that, as a result of the events that occurred in Mexico, “it is reinforced operational presence on the international political boundary with the neighboring country.”
Authorities report increased patrols
The military chief maintained that “patrols, controls on routes and at unauthorized points were increased.”
Likewise, Sáenz pointed out that the operations in more than 965 kilometers of border that Guatemala shares with Mexico they seek to guarantee the sovereignty of the country and the security of the population.
