In Troyes, a 59-year-old theater teacher was convicted on April 13 for defrauding more than 50,000 euros in social assistance by falsely declaring himself “quadriplegic” while living and working in Los Angeles.
An Aube theater teacher based in Los Angeles (United States) was sentenced this Monday, April 13 by the Troyes judicial court for having defrauded social assistance, reports The Flash East.
He said he was “tetraplegic” with 95% disability.
Between 2020 and 2024, the man, now 59 years old, claimed to live with a relative in Romilly-sur-Seine in order to receive the disabled adult allowance and assistance linked to a caregiver. In letters to the courts, he said “tetraplegic” with a disability of 95% and assured to survive thanks to the “begging”.
But a social services investigation established that this professor actually lived in Los Angeles, where he gave theater and film classes for a fee. “between 100 and 150 dollars” per student. Witnesses further confirm that he lived in the United States “for 3 or 4 years”. The prosecutor also pointed out his activity on social networks, where he appears “pretty fit” et “stands up.”
The condemned professor
Evoking a “witch hunt” carried out by the CAF, the defendant did not convince the court which found him guilty of “fraud”, “false declaration” and “alteration of the truth”, for damage of more than 50,000 euros to the detriment of the CAF of Aube and the Department.
He was sentenced to ten months in prison, as well as a fine of 25,000 euros.
