The officers arrived at the site in the early morning and found the lifeless body of Justin Fairfax, the former official, and Cerina Fairfaxthe wife of the former Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, in addition to the gun that was apparently used for both shots.

The Fairfax County police chief told the local press that both were passing through a divorce process which Cerina presented on July 18, 2025which was ongoing, since the Fairfax County Circuit Court issued an order on April 10, 2026 in which Justin Fairfax was instructed to appear on 21st of this month.
