IP launches competition for preliminary study of IC9 and IC3 with new Tagus crossings

Infraestruturas de Portugal launched the competition for the preliminary study of the Complementary Itinerary (IC) 9 between Abrantes and Ponte de Sor, which joins the preliminary study of the IC3 between Vila Nova da Barquinha and Almeirim, the company indicated this Wednesday, April 1st.

Contacted by the Lusa agency, Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) indicated this Wednesday that both IC9 and IC3 have a tender notice published in the Diário da República to advance to the preliminary study phase, a document that aims to define the preferred corridors for future routes.

The tender for the IC9, published on Tuesday in Diário da República, provides for the acquisition of services for the preparation of the preliminary study of the section between Abrantes (motorway 23) and Ponte de Sor (IC13).

The procedure has a base price of R$1.3 million and an execution period of 540 days. Proposals must be submitted by May 13th, through the ANOGOV electronic platform.

The stretch covers several parishes in Abrantes: Bemposta, Tramagal, São Vicente and São João, São Miguel do Rio Torto and Rossio south of the Tagus – and Ponte de Sor — Union of Parishes of Ponte de Sor, Tramaga and Vale de Açor.

According to IP, these studies will also define the preferred corridors for future Tagus crossings, although the location has not yet been fixed.

After completion of the preliminary study, each infrastructure will be subject to an Environmental Impact Study (EIA), to be sent to the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA).

This process should result in the Environmental Impact Declaration (DIA) which, if favorable, will define the corridor for the execution project.

Previously, and still with direct influence in the Santarém region, IP had launched on March 19 the public tender for the preparation of the preliminary study of the IC3 between Vila Nova da Barquinha (highway 23) and Almeirim (highway 13).

The bid has a base price of R$1.4 million and an execution period of 450 days, with proposals due by May 4th.

Several parishes in the municipalities of Vila Nova da Barquinha, Almeirim, Golegã, Chamusca and Alpiarça are covered.

According to IP, the estimated period of approximately nine months for the environmental assessment procedure is added to the execution period of the preliminary studies, meaning that each project may take approximately two years from the preliminary study to approval of the corridor.

The financial framework for the projects was reinforced by the Government, which authorized IP to assume multi-annual charges of up to 27.5 million euros for studies and interventions in priority road projects, including the A13/IC3, between Vila Nova da Barquinha and Almeirim, and the IC9, between Abrantes and Ponte de Sor.

The A13/IC3 and IC9 have been claimed for several years as strategic axes to improve accessibility and territorial cohesion between the Médio Tejo and Alto Alentejo.
