Iranian Hackers Hack FBI Director’s Email and Release Personal Photos

Computer hackers with ties to Iran announced this Friday, March 27, that they accessed the FBI director’s email inbox, publishing personal photos and documents of Kash Patel.

The Handala Hack Team hacker group said that Patel “will now find his name on the list of successfully hacked victims”, according to Reuters.

A Justice Department official confirmed to the agency that Patel’s email had been hacked and that the material posted online appeared authentic. The FBI has not yet officially commented on this incident.

Hackers posted a series of personal photos of Kash Patel: sniffing and smoking cigars, riding in an old convertible and making a face while taking a mirror selfie with a large bottle of rum.

Reuters says it was unable to independently authenticate Patel’s emails, but that the personal Gmail address the Handala group claims to have hacked matches the address linked to the FBI director in previous data breaches preserved by dark web intelligence firm District 4 Labs.

Handala, which calls itself a group of pro-Palestinian vigilante hackers, is considered by Western investigators to be one of several personas used by the Iranian government’s cyberintelligence units.
