Mafalda Livermore leaves Chega

Exonerated from her position as a member of the Social Services of the Lisbon Chamber (SSCML), after it was reported that she rented supposedly clandestine housing to immigrants, Mafalda Livermore left Chega this Wednesday (March 18).

The decision by the now former member of André Ventura’s party was taken after a “a deep reflection process on both a political and personal level”, having been communicated in a private publication on social networks to which the Observer ea SIC News had access. The decision to “put an end” to his “active political participation”, as he explained, “was not taken lightly”.

Despite having left the party, he guaranteed: “I will always be enough!”

Girlfriend of Bruno Mascarenhas, Chega councilor at Lisbon City Council, Mafalda Livermore stated that her career “had very positive and negative aspects” that “harmed her in several aspects” of her life. In the publication, he never referred, however, to the controversy that arose after the RTP report, according to which the then Chega activist was the owner of several properties where immigrants lived, without housing contracts and in an allegedly clandestine manner.

The case led to his departure from the municipality. According to RTP, the city council executive considered that there was “a breach of institutional trust” that led to Mafalda Livermore’s immediate dismissal. “In these situations, I am quick to react,” Carlos Moedas told the public broadcaster.

The controversy generated discomfort within Chega itself, leading deputy Rita Matias to ask Mascarenhas to resign from the city council executive. To SIC, the councilor said that he had a conversation with the president of Chega and that he has the political trust of André Ventura.

In fact, according to DN, Bruno Mascarenhas was making contacts to present his candidacy to lead the Lisbon district of Chega, currently presided over by deputy Pedro Pessanha.
