A 25-year-old man was arrested in Guimarães, district of Braga, for alleged sexual abuse of two girls, sisters, under the age of 5, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said this Friday, February 27th, with the suspect being held in pre-trial detention.
In a statement, the PJ explains that, through the Braga Criminal Investigation Department, it arrested, outside of the act of committing a crime, a man suspected “of committing crimes of aggravated sexual abuse of children, who maintained a close physical and kinship relationship with the victims, two girls under the age of five”.
“As part of an investigation that began on Monday following a complaint from the victims’ mother, several steps were taken to confirm the reported facts, giving consistency to the initial complaint and further elements being investigated that heightened their seriousness”says this criminal investigation force
A police source told the Lusa agency that the suspect is the godfather of one of the girls, who are sisters and are both under 5 years old.
“Following the investigative steps carried out, it was found that the most recent events occurred last weekend, in the house where the suspect lives, located in the urban area of Guimarães, when the victims were under his custody, and there are also strong indications that the suspect has already been abusing the victims, in the same context, for around a year and a half”relates to PJ.
According to this criminal investigation force, the man was approached on Thursday by elements of the PJ and taken to the Braga Criminal Investigation Department, “having, during interrogation, partially admitted the facts attributed to him”.
The detainee was present this Friday at the Guimarães Judicial Court for the first judicial interrogation, which decreed the most serious measure of coercion: preventive detention.
