PJ arrests suspect of kidnapping by director of luxury restaurant in Vale do Lobo who disappeared a week ago

The Judiciary Police (PJ) revealed this Friday, March 20, that they arrested a man suspected of committing the crime of kidnapping and robbery.

This arrest is related to the disappearance of another man, aged 50, Ricardo Claro, director of administrative services and human resources at a luxury restaurant in Vale do Lobo, who has been incommunicado since March 13th.

“Strong evidence was identified that the disappearance was not voluntary and the immediate steps resulted in the collection of evidence, which allowed the identification of a man directly involved in the events under investigation”, explained the PJ in a statement sent to newsrooms.

“The elements found allow, for now, to conclude that a criminal project was outlined that consisted of depriving the victim of his freedom, with a view to appropriating all the valuable objects that he was carrying or to which it was possible to access”, the note reads, which states that “technical and operational measures are being carried out in the eastern Algarve region, with a view to locating the victim, whose whereabouts remain unknown”.

It is worth noting that the missing man’s sister warned on social media that she knew from her bank cards that Ricardo Claro “was robbed” and that the restaurant director’s car, a Peugeot 2008, was found on Thursday, the 19th, parked near a restaurant in Olhão, and the key was recovered close to where the vehicle was parked.

The detainee, aged 39, will be brought before the competent judicial authorities for the purposes of judicial interrogation and application of coercive measures. According to the Morning Mailthis is a worker from the same company as the victim.

The investigation continues under the responsibility of the PJ “in order to properly clarify the facts”.
