The Portuguese international referee Sónia Teixeira was nominated main referee of the EuroLeague Women Final Sixwhich will be played this Sunday, April 19, between Galatasaray Çağdaş Faktoring and Fenerbahçe Opet. The game takes place at the Pavilhão Príncipe Felipe, in Zaragoza, from 7pm (mainland Portugal time).
The Portuguese judge leads the refereeing team for the decisive match of the main European women’s club competition, accompanied by Serbian Petar Pešić and Lithuanian Juozas Barkauskas. This is the Sónia Teixeira’s third presence in the final phase of the race, but it is the first time that she has taken on the role of team leader in a final.
The appointment represents yet another international recognition of the Portuguese referee’s trajectory in competitions organized by FIBA, where she has been a regular presence in high-level competitive games, both in club and national team competitions. Throughout his career, Sónia Teixeira has participated in European finals and directed meetings of the main women’s competitions under the auspices of FIBA Europe.
Among the most relevant distinctions of its international journey, it also stands out the appointment for FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2021, held in Strasbourg (France) and Valencia (Spain), where she was part of the restricted group of 16 referees selected to oversee games in the final stage of the competition.
