PS elect new secretariat with 90% and points to “responsible opposition”

The PS elected the new National Secretariat with 90% of the votes and the National Political Commission with 88%, considering the socialist president that it is possible to continue “to oppose without always saying no and without resorting to shouting”. The elections took place this Sunday, April 19th.

The president of the PS, Carlos César, announced to journalists the results of the elections for the bodies that took place, electronically, during the PS National Commission. It was the first after the consecration consecration of José Luís Carneiro as general secretary of the PS.

The list of the PS National Secretariat, the most restricted governing body, was elected with 90.05% of the votes, 190 in favor, 11 against and ten white. The National Political Commission was chosen with 87.68%, 185 on the list presented and 26 white.

“This National Commission was important, both internally and externally. Internally, because it allowed the reinstallation of all party bodies, as a result of the last National Congress”said Carlos César.

For the president of the PS, the results of the elections for these bodies “express, on the one hand, the strong unity that today typifies life in the Socialist Party, without prejudice to the diversity that has accompanied us for precisely 53 years, and also the vitality that these bodies can have”, taking into account the “impressive renovation that they all present”.

“The Socialist Party is, therefore, in a position to pursue with courage what it has sought to express to the Portuguese, and that it is possible to oppose without always saying no and without resorting to shouting. It is possible to be a good opposition and be recognized by the Portuguese as a party capable of making proposals, capable of saying how it should not be done, but also how it should be done”, he defended.
