Roda de Santo at B.Leza

Thursday (19) begins with a celebratory rhythm at B.Leza, with the debut of the residency of Roda de Santo, a group based in Lisbon that transforms references from terreiros into contemporary musical experiences. To open the season, the collective invites Batucadeiras das Olaias, in a meeting that brings together the sacred Afro-Brazilian and Cape Verdean batuku and makes music a bridge between different shores of the Atlantic.

More than a show, the night has everything to be a meeting of memory, resistance and feminine strength. On the one hand, the ritual energy of the Saint’s Wheel; on the other, the tradition of Batucadeiras das Olaias, marked by the power of voices and percussion made with the hands. In March, a month that reinforces the protagonism of women on different fronts, the stage also becomes a space for affirmation and celebration of the diaspora in sound and presence. The presentation is scheduled for 9:30 p.m.

Book launch at NowHere

On Saturday (21), the NowHere gallery hosts the book launch Rethinking North–South Discourses (Routledge, 2026), with a presentation by editors Bianca Sola Claudio and Filipe Campello, followed by a debate with Ana Balona de Oliveira and Cristiana Tejo, moderated by Bruno Marques. The proposal is to discuss the relations between the Global North and South, covering themes such as coloniality, memory and reparation – all from the perspective of the arts.

The tip gains even more weight because NowHere, created by Brazilian women, is experiencing a new moment in Lisbon. The space recently moved to Penha de França, expanding the structure and reinforcing the proposal to support migrant and emerging artists. In other words: in addition to the debate, it’s a good opportunity to get to know one of the most interesting projects on the city’s independent scene today – and that the DN Brazil already showed you.

Conversation at the Braço de Prata Factory

Also on Saturday (21), Fábrica Braço de Prata welcomes Portuguese-Brazilian producer Elsa Costa for a conversation about event production, within the Conexão IATEC – Portugal project, in partnership with Casa da Língua Portuguesa. The meeting proposes a practical look at the sector, comparing the behind-the-scenes of Brazil and Portugal, and is aimed at producers, artists, students and those curious about the topic.

With more than 40 years of career, Elsa has worked with names such as Lulu Santos, Marina Lima and Jorge Aragão, in addition to having participated in productions with Portuguese and Portuguese-speaking artists such as Amália Rodrigues, Carlos do Carmo and Cesária Évora. Today, he also works on training new professionals at IATEC, in Rio de Janeiro. For those who want to better understand how the cultural mechanism works in practice, it is a good conversation to put on the agenda.
