The mayor of Seixal, in the district of Setúbal, estimated this Thursday, February 19, that the losses in the municipality caused by the storms that devastated the territory in recent weeks are around 15 million euros.
Speaking to Lusa, Paulo Silva explained that the survey is still being carried out, but, in a first analysis, it is already possible to say that the damage is around 15 million euros.
At stake, he said, is various damages to road infrastructure, but also to schools.
Paulo Silva added that the survey is still ongoing, and the amount has not been completely finalized.
The municipality of Seixal was one of the territories on the Setúbal peninsula where bad weather had an impact, both on public infrastructure and private spaces, with several floods being recorded.
On February 11, a street in the town of Vale de Milhaços, in the municipality of Seixal, was flooded, affecting several houses after a retention basin collapsed.
The Fábrica da Pólvora avenue, in the parish of Corroios, had already been flooded the previous week and at least one family had to be relocated by the municipality.
At the time, asked by Lusa about how residents would be compensated for the damage caused by the flood, the mayor of Seixal said that the case had already been presented to the Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo.
National Road 378, which connects the municipalities of Seixal and Sesimbra, in the district of Setúbal, had to be cut due to flooding that also caused the shoulders to collapse, requiring emergency intervention.
Eighteen people died in Portugal following the passage of depressions Kristin, Leonardo and Marta, which also caused many hundreds of injuries and displacement.
The total or partial destruction of homes, businesses and equipment, the fall of trees and structures, the closure of roads, schools and transport services, and the cut of energy, water and communications, floods and floods are the main material consequences of the storm.
The Centro, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and Alentejo regions were the most affected.
The calamity situation that covered the 68 most affected municipalities ended on Sunday.
