Shooting at Old Dominion University in Virginia leaves one dead

Two people were injured Thursday in a shooting at a university in the state of Virginia, southern United States, in which the attacker died, according to the institution.

The University Old Dominion said in a statement that a gunman opened fire in a building on campus in Norfolk, wounding two people. The victims were taken to the hospital.

The institution indicated that police and emergency personnel “responded immediately” and “the attacker died.”

Classes were suspended for the rest of the day.

School shootings are common in the United States, where guns outnumber people and regulations even for purchasing military-style rifles are lax.
