The pétanque committee decides to measure the players’ blood alcohol levels during the tournament: four people disqualified because they were a little too drunk

The Rhône departmental pétanque committee organized the 16th of the pétanque championship on Saturday April 11 in Villefranche. Participants expected the day to be friendly, but certainly not to be marked by a surprise blood alcohol test.

It’s no joke. Four men were disillusioned while participating in a pétanque championship in Villefranche, in the Rhône, on Saturday April 11. They didn’t know it, but the organizers of the event, the Rhône pétanque committee, had decided in advance to subject all those qualified (96) for this competition to an alcohol test.

A slightly treacherous decision, as reported Progress, because no one expected it, obviously, but also because it happened around 6 p.m., so late in the day.

“Zero tolerance”

The four individuals pinned down, who did not belong to the same triplets, had a rate higher than the limit authorized for driving. Out of the question for the Rhône committee to accept this. In the ranks of the organization, it is “zero toleranceas for the blood alcohol level, he assumes.

In doing so, players who were a little too soaked were disqualified. An unprecedented experience, within the committee and throughout France, as raised by our colleagues from Progress.
