Trump agrees with the withdrawal of US bases in allied countries that do not cooperate, such as Spain

US President Donald Trump said this Friday, March 20, agree with Republican legislators who argue that Washington should dismantle bases in Spain and other NATO countries that they consider not cooperating in the security of the Strait of Hormuz.

Asked about Republican senator Lindsey Graham’s comments that Washington should consider withdrawing military bases in non-compliant countries, Trump said today that “you have to admit that they (legislators) are right” and that NATO “has lost a lot of prestige because it should be cooperating on the issue of the Strait” of Hormuz, from where the allies “get a lot of their energy”.

“If Lindsey Graham said that… Don’t forget that, for a time, he was an important figure when it came to NATO, although he is no longer,” Trump commented about the South Carolina senator, a former member of the Armed Forces.

Heading into the fourth week after the Israeli-North American attack on Iran, and with oil and gas prices reaching their highest levels in recent years, Trump has asked for help from European countries that are members of the Atlantic alliance, but also from Japan and South Korea, to guarantee security in the Strait of Hormuz, an important passage in terms of global hydrocarbon trade.
