Trump says Israel and Lebanon agreed to 10-day ceasefire

US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a ceasefire 10 days that will begin this Thursdayalthough there was no indication whether the Iranian-backed Lebanese Hezbollah movement will be added to the agreement.

Trump believes possible truce between Israel and Lebanon

Trump affirmed that the truce occurred after talks “excellent” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Lebanese counterpart President Joseph Aoun, which took place two days after Israel and Lebanon held peace talks in Washington.

“These two leaders have agreed that, to achieve PEACE between their countries, they will formally begin a 10-day CEASE FIRE at 5:00 PM” Eastern Time (9:00 p.m. GMT), Trump wrote on his Truth Social social network, without mentioning the Lebanese Hezbollah movement.

He also noted that he had instructed Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the top US military chief, Dan Caine, to work with both countries. “in order to achieve lasting peace.”

“It has been my honor to have solved nine wars around the world, and this will be the tenth, so, LET’S GET TO WORK!” exclaimed the president, who last February 28 launched the offensive against Iran in collaboration with Israel.

Hezbollah subsequently dragged Lebanon into the Middle East war, firing rockets at Israel in support of its Iranian ally.

Since then, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have claimed the lives of more than 2,000 people and displaced more than a million. Israeli ground forces also invaded the south of the country.

Finally, the Hezbollah Parliamentarian told AFP that the group will respect a ceasefire if Israeli attacks stop.
