On Thursday, the actor born in Lyon in 1972 was accused by one of his neighbors in Malibu of having killed her dog. Vera Errico said she was walking her three dogs, all on leashes, when David Charvet hit her 11-year-old white English Labrador with his vehicle. She claims that the actor then left the scene, before calling the police.
The animal was euthanized
Seriously injured, the animal was taken to the veterinarian, who had no choice but to euthanize it.
Faced with the outcry caused by the behavior described, the actor ended up speaking out. He admits to having hit the dog, but on the rest, his version differs. David Charvet first assures that the dogs were not kept on a leash, but roamed freely. Above all, he claims to have immediately stopped and called the police.
No hit and run
He says he was driving in his Malibu neighborhood around 5:30 Thursday morning, in low light, when he saw his neighbor walking her three dogs “without a leash in the middle of the road.” David Charvet said he slowed down and swerved to pass the dogs, but one of them “slipped under the vehicle,” he said. After contacting 911, the actor says he stayed on scene until police arrived, and then “cooperated fully with the investigation and was available for any further assistance.”
“All my thoughts go to the family who lost their dog,” he adds in his press release, which specifies: “I am myself a responsible dog owner, who would never intentionally harm an animal. »
Malibu police confirmed that the incident was “not considered a hit-and-run,” and assured that there were no “criminal charges” against the actor.
