This Thursday, April 16th, is the last day that orders will be received via mail. Those arriving from Friday, April 17th will be disregarded. According to the Portuguese Government, the objective is to “guarantee greater efficiency and proximity to users”.
The cities where it will be possible to place orders for in-person service: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador da Bahia, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Belém do Pará, Fortaleza, Recife, Curitiba and Porto Alegre. The change will have an impact, because there are states without company offices. Even where VFS is located, there are distant cities, due to the size of the country.
Sending by mail, as is currently the case, allows people from areas far from the capitals to have more options. Now, you will need to enter the travel planning accounts to apply for a visa. Furthermore, the request will be subject to the number of vacancies available.
O DN Brazil asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE) about possible inequalities that the new system could create, as well as how many vacancies will be available. However, he received no response.
