NUEVA YORK (EFE).— Google will sell the Pixel 10a, the most economical model in its smartphone line, at a price of $499.
The launch comes a few days after Apple announced the iPhone 17e, which will hit the market for $599, in direct competition in the mid-range segment.
Both companies are trying to attract users who want to get a more affordable device without sacrificing advanced features.
At first glance, the Pixel 10a retains a very similar design to the Pixel 9a. However, the new model eliminates the protrusion of the rear camera and now dual cameras that are flush with the surface of the phone. This allows the device to be placed completely flat on the table until the camera module is raised.
Due to this design change, Google will keep the 5,100mAh battery and improve the charging speed via the cable to 30W. The phone also comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of basic storage. It also features a 10% brighter panel with 3,000 nit peaks and Gorilla Glass 7i that offers greater resistance to shocks or rays.
In this new generation, Google decided to keep the Tensor G4 processor, like the previous model, instead of integrating the new Tensor G5 from the Pixel 10.
The company explained that the device aims to offer a good experience with smart professionals. “Pixel 10a is the only phone in its category to offer a Pixel camera and Google AI features for less than $500,” the company said during a pre-launch presentation.
Artificial intelligence also improves camera functions. The photo system uses Gemini AI for settings such as Camera Coach, which offers recommendations on lighting or settings, and the “We Include” feature, which allows you to add intelligent people to group photos that include you.
The device also includes an SOS service via satellite in some regions, which allows you to contact emergency services when there is no mobile signal.
Apple has announced the iPhone 17e, which will be available from next January 11, but from now on with caveats. The device features an A19 chip and a C1X modem, which the company says offers higher power efficiency and speed.
“iPhone 17e combines high performance with performance designed for users, with a durable design and features that let you work and create more efficiently,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of iPhone marketing.
