KRAKOW (EFE).— A humanoid robot created as Edward Warchocki has become a social phenomenon and viral personality in Poland by appearing in social circles by expanding prisons on the streets of Warsaw and visiting the Polish parliament.
According to Radosław Grzelaczyk and Bartosz Idzik, their two internet personality creators, the android’s videos have amassed more than 1,500 million views on social media in just 45 days.
The appearance of Edko, as they call their dueño, is causing a sensation thanks to the way the robot interacts with people on the street, in public transport and in shops. One of the most impressive episodes took place last Saturday the 11th, when he was caught chasing three jabalíes through the streets shouting “¡Fuera!” in Polish.
The video went viral and sparked debate about the use of androids in urban wildlife control as a non-lethal alternative to traditional hunters.
It also raised ethical concerns about the stress caused to the animals, which are known to be cruel to urban verts in their search for food.
Android arrived in Parliament on March 24 at the invitation of the Confederation Party to address artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. During his visit, Edward offered a humorous speech in which he demanded a pay rise for MPs, interacted with politicians and some of his friends.
Edward Warchocki is not only a humanoid robot, but also an influencer.
Grzelaczyk and Idzik, founders of MERARobotics, developed proprietary software for the robot, MERA OS (called “the brain”).
At just 132cm tall and equipped with a 3D LiDAR (a remote sensing system that uses laser pulses to measure distances to and around objects), Warchocki is a medical star in Poland who also runs marathons, dances on TV and collaborates with leading brands.
