On Saturday, thousands attended Faneuil Hall Marketplace as Mayor Marty Walsh and Governor Charlie Baker lit the 85 foot tall Christmas tree to mark the beginning of the Christmas season and holiday events throughout the city of Boston.

The event also featured performances by America’s Got Talent finalists, Sons of Serendip, Blue Man Group, Cirque Dreams Holidaze, Boston Ballet’s The Nutcracker, and the Boston Children’s Chorus. The one-hour live event concluded with the tree lighting spectacular as all the performers were on-stage together with the Mayor and Governor and jointly lit the tree.

When the lights came one, confetti flooded the skies over Faneuil Hall and an outburst of cheers echoed throughout the city.

The Faneuil Hall Tree Lighting Spectacular is an annual event in Boston and one of the city’s great holiday treasures. It has created memories for all ages throughout its history. The lighting of the Faneuil Hall tree only marks start of more Christmas tree lightings throughout the city within the upcoming weeks.

Martellus Bennett of the New England Patriots and, again, Mayor Walsh were in attendance to light the tree.
