Government asks the EU for support from the Solidarity Fund for losses of 5.3 billion

The Government submitted to Brussels a request for support from the European Union (EU) Solidarity Fund for losses exceeding 5,300 million euros due to bad weather, the Ministry of Economy and Territorial Cohesion announced this Tuesday (14).

Portugal was hit by a train of storms between January 22nd and February 15th, which mainly affected the Central region.

The Government submitted yesterday [segunda-feira]with the European Commission, the request for support from the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) for total losses exceeding 5,300 million euros caused by the storm train”, released, in a statement, the ministry led by Castro Almeida.

In the request, the executive pointed out that Portugal was hit by seven storms, with winds that exceeded 130 kilometers per hour, to which was added record rainfall, in addition to floods, landslides and sea disturbances.
