Mission Artemis II NASA has allowed astronauts to see the details of their legendary sight even when China’s Chang’e 4 and Chang’e 6 probes launch them in 2019 and 2024, respectively.
I want to acknowledge that this mission is a technological marvel, even if I could say it is a return home to the Newtonian physics of gravity (for this example it is not necessary to go back to the general theory of relativity and the mathematics that arise from the study of celestial mechanics, which belonged to the great scientific pioneers such as Pierre-Simon Laplace and Henri Poincaré, a discipline now strengthened by the availability of computers and because of the knowledge that astrophysics brought to the Solar System).
How could I hope This mission attracted a lot of attention in the news media Many of them sent reporters around the world to report in situ. The Kennedy Space Center in Florida hosted a throng of reporters and television cameras, and thousands gathered to view the craft.
I don’t think there are many periodicals or televangelists, if any, whose front pages or openings have not been devoted to this mission, supplemented by explanation of all types of details: engines, head (the most powerfully built), capsule (Orion) for the crew (special attention is drawn to the one in the first place with a small back), protective cover, astronaut tracks and different phases of flight.
In mentioning all this, and I insist, the admiration I feel for what this mission means in the technological-scientific order, I want to hold back in other aspects for those who are very critical. The first of these concerns the importance attached to it and that it is reflected in the answer that Lori Glaze, NASA’s associate administrator, offered to Nuño Domínguez, specially sent El País: “This mission is to be a ray of hope for the whole world“.
“Beam of Hope” in a world full of reality for the massive destruction of life and materials in Ukraine, Gaza, Iran, Lebanon! In a world in which international politics helplessly assist the most transparent and crude wisdom (Trump), based on the argument of strength and expansive interest (Netanyahu), which describes the painful past of the Israeli people.
Since it was a TV series, we see on TV news how rockets that flew from hundreds or miles of kilometers destroy all types of installations and buildings, without importing human lives, classified as “collateral damage”. A technology that has given mankind so much good, now as an instrument of pain.
NASA’s latest mission will not help answer the troubling questions we are aware of today
This, in a world in which the pleasantness, I say, of evidence of climate change hinders humanity a very different environmental future from that which has prevailed since the pastwhich will cause profound changes in lives and business. Amenaza-evidence that the president of the country denies that it consumes more energy, regardless of international interests (only complex) to control gas emissions in winter.
Another of the frequent comments about this mission is that it will resonate with our knowledge of space. But the knowledge to be gained in this case is smallcompletely comparable to what other probes, terrestrial or space telescopes and researches of astrophysicists and cosmologists have proposed.
Artemis II will not contribute to answering the big and troubling questions of those we are aware of today: what is dark matter, where has gone the flesh that consumes the black tormentors, yes there are other universesor really understand what the Big Bang was.
Leo, in a different way than Artemis II and the missions that will follow it, honors the desire of humans to return to our earthly home, but I do not share this view that cI am considering the manifestations resulting from myopiano longer for the immediate (Moon, Mars).
Those who honor the human intellect are the thousands of scientists who explore the universe with their research
Those who satisfy this desire and honor the human intellect are the thousands of scientists who explore the universe with their research, along the open route around Brahe, Kepler, Galileo, Newton, Herschel, Hubble or Einstein, among others, with the support of these “hogares” of astronomical science, such as Hven, Monte Wilson, Monte Palomar, Mauna Kea, Cerro de los Muchachos, Atacama, Telescopios Espaciales Hubble and James Webb…
What is clear about this new beginning in the exploration of our planetary planet is the intervention of new factors. Relatively topical because it’s a variation of the former space race for prestige that you used to be protagonists in the United States and the Soviet Union, now employable again in China.
The present of goals is different from the future mining in lunar space. Since in the near future, the lack of some materials in the country, consumer anxiety and the achievement of great economic benefits will lead us to direct our satellite explorations now. And they control not only nations, but also individuals, plutocrats who have fijado between their interests (commercial, public and personal, their “vital philosophy”) the “colonization” and exploitation of the Moon and Mars.
In the head of the eyes, Elon MuskHere, before the start of the Artemis II mission, he announced his intention to buy the space company SpaceX on the stock exchange; and Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and owner of Blue Origin, an airline company.
The space program is not solely managed or controlled by NASA and other countries’ space agencies such as Europe’s ESA, but by individuals like these. Democracy, it seems, an old and noble project that included movements like the independence of the United States, which will celebrate its 250th anniversary this year, or the French Revolution, has its enemies within, and money and technology are its best allies.
