After vehicle crash in Egypt, 18 dead

At least 18 people died on Thursday in the collision between a minibus transporting fishing workers and a truck in northeastern Egypt, local media reported this Friday.

The vehicles collided on a road that connects the ports in the north of the country to the Egyptian capital. However, the Egyptian authorities have not yet published an official balance.

According to Al Shorouk newspaper, the accident was caused by “excessive speed, aggravated by low visibility due to poor weather conditions.”

Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly, who offered his condolences to the families of the victims, ordered the payment of financial compensation to the families of the victims.

Traffic accidents are frequent in Egypt, where the road code is poorly respected and the roads are in poor condition.

In 2024, more than 5,200 people died on Egyptian roads, according to the central statistics agency.
