Baby dies from measles in Tlaxcala; I was not vaccinated

TLAXCALA.- State authorities confirmed the death of a one year and one month old baby in Tlaxcaladue to complications associated with measles.

As reported by the Tlaxcala Health Secretariatthe minor did not have the complete vaccination schedule; had not yet received the anti-measles dose corresponding.

The statement details that on January 25, the baby presented a fever of 38 degrees, and two days later a maculopapular rash, that is, a skin rash that combines flat and red spots (blemishes) and bumps (papules).

He also had cough, conjunctivitis, and retroatrial lymph nodes, but received medications without medical evaluation.

Because he had difficulty breathing, the mother took him to a doctor, after which they were referred to the General Hospital of San Pablo del Monte, where he was admitted on January 28, three days after the first symptom.

At the time of admission, he was in general deterioration with respiratory distress.

Finally, the minor had to be transferred to the Tlaxcala Children’s Hospital, where the protocol was activated in the event of a suspected case of measles.

However, the advance of the disease complicated his state of health, which is why he died on January 30 at 10:31 a.m., which was notified to the General Directorate of Epidemiology and the National Center for Health and Adolescence.”.

The authorities urged parents to have their children vaccinated, as part of the actions to protect their health, and called on the general population to review the vaccination records.

In case there are missing doses to be administered, parents are asked to go to the vaccination macro centers or the state Health Centers to receive them.
