She is one of the faces of the tragedy that took place on the evening of 1is of the year in Crans-Montana. Cyane Panine, a 24-year-old French woman from Sète (Hérault) who was a waitress at Constellationwas killed in the bar fire in the Swiss resort. Three and a half months after the tragedy, her mother Astrid Panine announced on Saturday April 18 – the date of her daughter’s birthday – the launch of a tribute operation in memory of all the victims of the tragedy.
Announced on Here Héraultthe symbolic operation is called “Operation Papillon” and encourages those who wish to publish a message of support or a kind action on social networks, whether it is a text, a photo or a video, and to add the hashtag #operationpapillonC – C for Cyane.
“Do something to avoid being sad”
Astrid Panine explains to Here that she wanted to do “something concrete”, so “that memories stay alive, (…) that we always think of these young people and that it does not happen again”. “I wanted to do something to transcend it and not stay in sadness or anger or anything that will bring me nothing, that will only harm me and will bring nothing to my missing daughter and to all the young people who are suffering,” she continues.
“It wasn’t just Cyane. There were a lot of people there, Astrid Panine told Sud Radio, referring to the 41 people who died on New Year’s Eve, and the hundred injured. All the broken lives, the dead, but also the injured who still need to be supported because they will be there for a few years. And all their families who are suffering. So, I think we have to try to shed a little light on all of this…”
This Sunday, April 19, Eoline, Cyane’s older sister, also took part in the Montpellier half-marathon. She was running under the colors of a new association supporting young French victims of the Crans-Montana fire.
