DECRYPTION. Second Jubillar trial: a “new Cédric” in the box, Frank Berton, Pierre and Guy Debuisson at his side… how the defense is preparing for the return of the case

the essential
The second trial of Cédric Jubillar will be held from September 21 to October 16, 2026, in Toulouse. Retried for the murder of his wife Delphine, he is defended by a shock trio: Pierre and Guy Debuisson and Frank Berton of the Lille bar. They will try to secure the acquittal of this man sentenced to 30 years in prison, at first instance.

Cédric Jubillar’s new lawyer since January 2026, Pierre Debuisson strengthens his defense and surrounds himself with key documents. The young criminal lawyer from Toulouse has just called on two major courtroom figures to prepare the appeal trial in one of the most publicized cases of the last ten years in France. Guy Debuisson, father, and Frank Berton of the Lille bar now form the new cast around Cédric Jubillar, this 38-year-old plasterer craftsman, retried from September 21 to October 16, 2026, on appeal, in Toulouse, for the murder of his wife Delphine.

On October 17, this man, tenaciously defended by Mes Alexandre Martin and Emmanuelle Franck, were sentenced to 30 years of criminal imprisonment, before the Tarn Assize Court. No body, no crime scene or confession. The new shock trio, a mixture of great experience and humility, wants to recall the main principles of the rules of law: “We cannot condemn a man without proof”, insists Pierre Debuisson.

“Against arbitrary justice”

Around him, his father, 75 years old, a famous Toulouse criminal lawyer known to have been a civil party in the Viguier and Estrabaud cases (read elsewhere), two criminal cases without a body. And Frank Berton, 64, whose name is associated with the rehabilitation of the victims of Outreau, or with the Florence Cassez affair, this French national detained in Mexico before being released. The former DJ with a corrosive and provocative tone was also “the devil’s advocate”, defending Salah Abdeslam, the only survivor of the commando of the terrorist attacks of November 13, before withdrawing from the case. Three-star lawyers who immediately established the Jubillar affair as the symbol of the fight against all arbitrary justice.

But faced with this luxury casting, the accusation is not out of place. The heavy charges and the thick body of evidence which led to the conviction of Cédric Jubillar appear stainless. Damaged by the accusations of his son, witness to an argument on the evening of December 15, 2020, at the family home in Cagnac-les-Mines, Cédric Jubillar is surrounded by incriminating elements. Delphine’s pair of glasses found broken in the living room (element materializing the argument), the car which changed direction of parking during the night and which could have been used to transport the nurse’s remains, cries of fear mixed with the barking of dogs heard by two neighbors, not far from the Jubillar villa…

A new Cédric Jubillar in the box?

Added to this list is Cédric Jubillar’s unusual use of his telephone, on the evening of the events, and indirect death threats against his wife, before her disappearance. A husband in dire straits whose personality is described by experts as “violent, angry, impulsive” and “compatible with acting out”, reports the Tarn Assize Court in its criminal judgment. But a portrait which contrasts with much less divisive character traits. Those who were able to visit him in detention speak of a man who was “respectful of the rules, humble, polite”.

Delphine Jubillar, a 33-year-old mother, had to start a new life with her lover. Regarding the couple’s breakup, the Assize Court only accepted a “circumstantial” acceptance on the part of Cédric Jubillar.

Charges but no evidence. The prosecution is based on numerous testimonies and technical elements establishing in particular that the telephone (never found) of Delphine Jubillar never left the couple’s living area, in Cagnac-les-Mines. Furthermore, the prosecution has never irrefutably established the crime scenario. Was Delphine Jubillar killed outside the house? In the living room? And above all, his body was never found. Formulating evasive, sometimes incoherent answers, Cédric Jubillar had not made the task easy for his former lawyers. What will his attitude be in five months? This is one of the keys to this second trial.
