final version of the proposal will be sent to CGTP. UGT convenes national secretariat

The Minister of Labor assured this Friday (April 17) that the final version of the proposed amendment to the labor law will be sent to the CGTP and said that if there is no agreement with the partners, the document submitted to parliament will be a compromise.

“We are going to send this document to CGTP, because the document we delivered yesterday [quinta-feira] There were some mistakes that were, however, corrected”, said Rosário Palma Ramalho, in Lisbon, when asked by journalists whether the trade union federation led by Tiago Oliveira would receive the final version of the proposed amendment to the labor law.

The Minister of Labor also highlighted that this Friday’s meeting between the Government, UGT and the four confederations served to make “small adjustments” on the final version of the draft agreement.

Palma Ramalho also assured that “it is now” up to “the Government and other partners to calmly wait for UGT’s final position”.

On the UGT side, this union center said it will convene an extraordinary national secretariat to decide whether or not to agree to the changes in labor law, while the business confederations said they agree with the latest proposed version.

These positions were conveyed at the end of a meeting with the Minister of Labor, in Lisbon.

According to the general secretary of UGT, Mário Mourão, the meeting will take place “in principle” on Thursday.

“UGT will “schedule an extraordinary meeting so that the secretariat [nacional] can look at the final version” of the proposed changes to labor law, said Mourão, in Lisbon.

Asked what his position will be at the extraordinary meeting, the secretary general of the UGT declined to elaborate.

“There are still matters on which it has not yet been possible to reach a consensus”, admitted Mário Mourão, refusing, however, to advance concrete measures until he receives the final version of the document.

However, he admitted that the latest proposals made by UGT regarding the time bank by agreement and continuous working hours were not accepted by the business confederations.
