What happened in kyiv?
The tragedy took place in broad daylight in the capital. The man opened fire in the street using an automatic weapon. He caused several victims before retreating into a business where he held people hostage.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko said on Telegram that the suspect had been “killed during his arrest”, after an intervention by special police forces. According to him, the assailant had also fired at the police during the assault.

Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed a toll of at least five dead and several injured, including a child. A total of ten people were hospitalized with injuries and trauma. Four hostages were released unharmed. “The exact circumstances are being established,” he said on social media, calling for a rapid investigation and transparency into the facts. The mayor of kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, for his part, mentioned up to fifteen injured in total.

According to the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office, the suspect is a 58-year-old man from Moscow. He allegedly used an automatic weapon and took refuge in the supermarket after opening fire in the street. A fire also broke out in the apartment where he was registered as a resident, although authorities have not yet established a clear link with the shooting.
