Israel opens an investigation after the dissemination of an image of an Israeli soldier hitting an image of Christ in Lebanon

Las Israeli Armed Forces have announced the opening of an investigation after confirming the authenticity of an image published on social networks in which an Israeli soldier in uniform is seen hitting the face of a figure of Jesus of Nazareth crucified which would have been taken in southern Lebanon.

“After an initial examination it has been concluded that the photograph shows an IDF (Israel Defense Forces) soldier causing damage to a Christian symbol in South Lebanon“, the Israeli Armed Forces published in a statement.

The military command has assured that it views this incident with “great severity” and has stressed that this behavior “does not agree with the values ​​expected of its troops.”

For this reason, the Northern Command has opened an investigation with the involvement of the chain of command and promises that “appropriate measures” will be taken with those responsible. “The IDF is even working to help the community restore the figure instead,” he added.

The statement concludes by reminding that Israel is in southern Lebanon “to dismantle Hezbollah’s terrorist infrastructure” and “has no intention of causing damage to civilian infrastructure, such as religious buildings or religious symbols.”
