At least 30 people were evacuated this Tuesday, February 17, from their homes, in Costa da Caparica, in the municipality of Almada, after a landslide, following bad weather, hit three houses, revealed a source from the municipality.
The same official source told the Lusa agency that, until around 1 pm, 17 units of buildings located close to the three houses buried due to the collapse of the cliff had been evacuated, forcing the evacuation of 30 people.
According to a source from the Almada Chamber, 23 of the 30 residents were welcomed by the municipality, while the remaining seven found other accommodation solutions.
In a message published on her page on the social network Facebook, the mayor of Almada, Inês de Medeiros, revealed that “LNEC teams [Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil] They are already on the ground to assess the future risks of landslides as the land dries out.”
“The danger remains”, warned the mayor, stressing that the municipality is “on all fronts to avoid a greater tragedy”.
