Leaders of Brazil and Spain meet in Barcelona and support “no to war”

BARCELONA, Spain.- This Friday, the head of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchezand the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvathey stated in Barcelona its full harmony with the current geopolitical moment, supporting the message of the “no to war” and calling on progressives around the world to stand up to the “reactionary wave.”

Sánchez and Lula led the first bilateral summit between their respective countries, in which eight Spanish ministers and their corresponding Brazilian counterparts participated and a series of agreements were signed that reinforce collaboration in various areas.

The summit is one of the three international events that are held in two days in Barcelona and at the origin of which are both leaders, since in addition to this bilateral summit, there will also be another one of an institutional nature called ‘In defense of democracy‘, and a progressive forum with more than a hundred matches from all over the world and about 3,000 participants.

Sánchez has added that peace is not only the absence of warbut the condition that makes everything else possible, prosperity, social justice, freedom, the defense of democracy and its consolidation, values ​​that have regretted that they are being attacked by a “reactionary wave”authoritarianism or misinformation that threaten democratic institutions.

In line with those words, Lula has supported positions that Sánchez is defending on issues such as war in iran: “I understand perfectly,” he stressed, “when you say ‘no to war’.”

Furthermore, he has considered that both are “in the same trench” and they are the example that it is possible to build solutions to problems “without giving in to the empty promises of extremism“.

Lula added that both share the idea that “democracy has to go beyond voting and provide concrete benefits to people’s lives.”
