The victim returned home with his wifewithout realizing that she was being followed. Near the entrance to the building, one of the suspects suddenly approached, pushed the woman and took away her watch before trying to flee the scene.
The escape attempt ended up failing a few moments later, when the assailant fell on a public street. The owner of the watch then managed to reach it and, with the support of a witness who witnessed the situation, kept it immobilized until the police arrived.. The stolen object, valued at around 1.5 million euros, was recovered.
Other members of the suspected group may have managed to leave the area before police intervened. The authorities are now taking steps to identify the remaining people involved and determine whether the group could be related to similar incidents recently recorded in the capital.
The detained man, of Algerian nationality, was brought before a judge and was subject to a less serious measure of coercion, awaiting the trial to unfold in freedom.
