Six districts on the north and central coast are this Thursday, February 19, under yellow warning, due to the forecast of maritime unrest, said the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
According to a note, the IPMA says that northwestern waves are expected that can reach five meters in height in the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga.
The six districts will be under yellow warning until at least 03:00 on Friday.
The yellow warning is the first alert level on a scale of three (yellow, orange, red) issued by IPMA and means that there is a risk situation for weather-dependent activities, being characterized by moderate risk.
The rain will continue in mainland Portugal today, mainly in the north and central regions, but nothing too serious, according to meteorologist Cristina Simões, adding that next weekend will be sunny.
“We will continue with precipitation in the northern and central regions. It is not a very serious situation, however, there will always be some precipitation. Some frontal surfaces will pass, mainly affecting the north and center. The southern region is more protected by the anticyclone, which is already closer to the continent”Cristina Simões told Lusa.
According to the meteorologist at the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), this situation with the occurrence of rain and showers will continue until this Thursday, which could be snow in Serra da Estrela.
Eighteen people died in Portugal following the passage of depressions Kristin, Leonardo and Marta, which also caused many hundreds of injuries and displacement.
The total or partial destruction of homes, businesses and equipment, the fall of trees and structures, the closure of roads, schools and transport services, and the cut of energy, water and communications, floods and floods are the main material consequences of the storm.
The Centro, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and Alentejo regions were the most affected.
The calamity situation that covered the 68 most affected municipalities ended on February 15th.
