Orbán, Trump and Putin. We were such good friends!

Netanyahu’s recent statements at the Holocaust Memorial Ceremony could not be more irrational. Calling on European countries to join the military effort against Iran was to involve the European Union in a logic of war that is not justified and is having tragic results on the world economy. It was, in fact, into this trap that the United States fell with the consequences that the world knows today.

It’s not every day that the European Union experiences a moment of simultaneous defeat for Trump and Putin. The results of the elections in Hungary reaffirm the justice of the principles that guide the countries of the European Union.

After 16 years in power and an impoverished Hungary, the Hungarians gave a significant victory to Magyar, from the Tisza Party.

The trip of North American vice-president JD Vance to Budapest in support of Viktor Orbán was of little use. Although not fully proven, if they existed, the alleged Russian interference in the Hungarian elections was also of little value. European political circles spoke of signs of manipulation of fictitious websites against opponents, interference in social networks and digital campaigns to favor Orbán.

Objectively, Trump and Putin were, politically, defeated. And its defeat was based on the affirmation of the principles that guide the European Union.

Viktor Orbán, after an illiberal detour, transformed Hungary into a crude copy of what Russia is today.

Hungary, by moving away from and betraying the principles that govern the European Union, isolated itself and became impoverished. None of the political ideals that guide Europe were practiced by Viktor Orbán. There was no freedom of the press. Journalists in carrying out their work were prevented from questioning the government. A bit like Trump, who selects only journalists to cover the White House who do not raise uncomfortable questions for the President of the United States.

There was no separation of powers between the judicial and political powers. Over the years Orbán has placed his apparatchiks in places of trust.

By losing Brussels’ trust, Hungary also lost financial support and related fund transfers. Something like around 20 billion euros and also subsidies from the Community Budget of approximately ten billion euros.

This situation of separation from the European Union has resulted in the impoverishment of Hungary, which is today the second poorest country in the European Union with a GDP of just 218 billion euros. Despite having low debt (73% of GDP), growth was anemic. In 2025 Hungary only grew by 0.3%.

Corruption prevailed in a system that gave opportunities only to those who supported Orbán’s dictatorship. A copy of the Russian oligarchy.

The recent elections therefore expressed the population’s discontent with Viktor Orbán’s governance. Magyar’s victory will allow a profound transformation in the country. By obtaining more than two thirds of the total votes, and by winning in 93 of the 106 electoral districts, Magyar can change the Constitution and thus change the face of the country towards democracy.

The result of the elections in Hungary also gives new energy and vitality to the European Union with a rapprochement with Poland, thus strengthening the line of defense against Russian imperialism.

These elections are therefore an important element in the political affirmation of the European Union, now practically abandoned by the United States, which, with its attitudes, has compromised the transatlantic axis.

The result of the elections will also unlock the loan of 90 billion euros intended for the Defense of Ukraine and which were systematically vetoed by Viktor Orbán. Bad news, therefore, for Russia.

The electoral result in Hungary will, therefore, give new impetus to the European Union’s political affirmation in a world that is experiencing unexpected and surprising transformations. The political reinforcement of the European Union in the global strategy now requires the return of Great Britain, which is sorely missed in Europe and which has been so harmed by its departure from the European club. For now, with these elections, the world has seen the affirmation of democratic principles and the value they represent when a people takes the destiny of a country into their own hands.
