In his prayer, Hegseth said: “The path of the downed pilot is hemmed in on all sides by the injustices of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of comradeship and duty, guides the lost through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the one who finds lost children. And I will punish with great vengeance and wrath those who try to capture and destroy my brother. And you will know that my name is Sandy One when I pour out my vengeance on you.
Already in Pulp FictionJules Winnfield said: “There is a passage I have memorized that seems appropriate for this moment: Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is hemmed in on all sides by the injustices of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, guides the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the one who finds lost children. And I will punish with great vengeance and wrath those who try to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I pour out my vengeance on you.”
On the other hand, in Ezekiel 25:17 we read: “I will punish them severely and will avenge myself with all fury. So they will feel my harsh vengeance and will know that I am the Lord.”
Although Hegseth attributed the passage to CSAR soldiers and did not refer to it as a direct quote from Ezekiel 25:17, he said it reflects that verse, but in reality the phrase is clearly taken from a line of Pulp Fictiona 1994 Quentin Tarantino film.
And in the cinematographic work, as in the passage cited by Hegseth, only the last sentence matches the verse.
